Our Curriculum
Victorian Curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship. Full details of the curriculum can be found at http://victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/
English (Literacy) & Mathematics (Numeracy)
At St. Joseph's we place a high priority on student learning in the core areas of English and Mathematics. There is a school wide one hour reading block at the beginning of each day and an hour is spent on writing each daily. Spelling and Speaking and Listening are integrated through reading and writing. One hour per day is dedicated to Maths, with a strong emphasis placed on Number & Algebra.
Staff closely monitor student progress in English and Mathematics and school targets are set and review annually. Staff invest significant time if developing their capacity in these core areas.
Religious Education
Our Religious Education program aims to:
• assist the children to recognise the presence of Jesus in their lives, through his message in the Scriptures;
• encourage the children to experience themselves as part of creation and to recognise all creation as a sign of God's goodness;
• provide a climate where the children's faith can be nurtured in trust and freedom;
• lead the children to know, to understand and to appreciate the spiritual and religious dimensions of life as expressed in the Catholic faith tradition;
• assist the children to appreciate belonging to and celebrating with the local parish community
Technology
MacBooks, ChromeBooks & IPads
The students at St. Joseph's are blessed to have access to high quality technology for learning. Students in Year 5 & 6 are part of a 1:1 MacBook program, Year 3 & 4 are part of a 1:1 ChromeBook program, while the F-2 students have access to iPads. Our goal as a staff is to continue to utilise the technology as purposeful learning tools across the curriculum.
